SSL Certificates Explained: DV vs OV vs EV

DV SSL validates control of the domain and is appropriate for most websites that need HTTPS. OV and EV add organization validation and are often used where company identity matters more explicitly.

The main buying decision is not just the validation type. Review issuance process, warranty, SAN and wildcard requirements, and how you will manage renewals.

If the site is primarily a content, SaaS, or brochure property, DV is usually enough. If you need stronger identity signaling, compare OV and EV requirements carefully.
